I was driving through San Francisco one day when I saw an old chair on the side of the road. I loved the look of it and wanted to see if I could transform it into something new. I thought it would interesting to make something so inert as a piece of furniture into something that looked organic, living, and breathing, so I carved a heart out of basswood, painted and laquered it, and installed it in the chair. Then, I hand-routered veins into all of the exposed wood parts, and finished it with stitching and spray paint. |
